Ekam drops heartbreak anthem ‘Hissey’ from his conceptual Mahoul EP
New Delhi [India], April 15: Emerging Punjabi artist Ekam is set to strike an emotional chord with his upcoming track Hissey, a soulful sad-pop number that dives deep into heartbreak, betrayal, and introspection. Slated for release on April 15, the song is part of his much-anticipated Mahoul EP, a project that explores the many emotional atmospheres of modern life.
Hissey stands out as one of the most vulnerable tracks on the EP, capturing the emotional aftermath of broken trust and the contrast between loyalty and deception. With its melancholic tone and reflective lyrics, the song represents the quieter, more introspective side of the Mahoul universe.
Sharing his thoughts on the track, Ekam said, “Hissey is not just a song, it’s a feeling. It talks about the parts of love that stay with you even after everything falls apart. This track is very personal—it’s about betrayal, but also about understanding your own emotions in silence.”
The Mahoul EP is envisioned as a 360-degree sonic journey, reflecting the shifting environments people navigate today—from high-energy social settings to deeply personal moments of solitude. Each track defines a distinct “Mahoul” (atmosphere), blending contemporary production with storytelling rooted in real emotions.
Ekam’s musical journey traces back to Delhi, where he discovered his passion for music at the age of 11. Growing up in a family steeped in artistry, with his father being a professional tabla player, he was exposed early to rich musical traditions. Deeply inspired by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Ekam honed his craft through years of dedication, performing at Dargahs and immersing himself in Sufi music.
Before stepping into the spotlight as a solo artist, he collaborated with several Sufi bands as a backing vocalist, eventually evolving into a multifaceted creator. Today, his music reflects a seamless blend of Sufi soul, pop melodies, and hip-hop influences, making his sound both rooted and contemporary.
With teasers already building anticipation, Hissey is poised to become a relatable anthem for anyone navigating the complexities of love and loss, further establishing Ekam as a promising voice in India’s independent music scene.
