Femina Miss India Stars Highlight Shivrajpur’s Blue Flag Excellence
Femina Miss India 2023 & 2024 1st runners-up Shreya Poonja and Rekha Pandayy visit Gujarat’s pioneering Blue Flag beach Shivrajpur near Dwarka, praising its safety, adventure options, and sustainable charm.
Shivrajpur Beach, Gujarat’s trailblazing Blue Flag-certified destination, recently hosted two poised representatives of Indian beauty pageantry: Shreya Poonja, 1st Runner-Up of Femina Miss India 2023, and Rekha Pandayy, 1st Runner-Up of Femina Miss India 2024. Their visit spotlighted a shoreline that has become a quiet but powerful example of how India can deliver world-class coastal experiences while upholding strict environmental and safety standards.
Positioned approximately 12 km from the historic and spiritual center of Dwarka in Devbhumi Dwarka district, Shivrajpur earned its Blue Flag status in 2020 from the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), an international authority that evaluates beaches on 33 stringent criteria. These include excellent water quality, effective waste management, lifeguard presence, emergency facilities, environmental information boards, and habitat conservation measures. For Indian beaches, this certification remains rare and carries significant prestige.
The two titleholders explored the beach’s signature features: powdery golden sands that stretch uninterrupted for long distances, exceptionally clear waters revealing a calm seabed, and clearly zoned activity areas that allow adventure without compromising order or ecology. Jet skiing and other motorized water sports operate in designated corridors, while families and solo travelers enjoy safe swimming zones and serene walking paths along the edge of the Arabian Sea.
Rekha Pandayy captured the dual essence of the place during her visit, saying, “There’s a beautiful energy here. You feel free and adventurous, yet completely safe. I can easily imagine live concerts or cultural evenings here with the sea as a breathtaking backdrop.” Her observation reflects both the beach’s current appeal and its planned trajectory toward becoming a multi-purpose cultural venue.
Plans already in discussion include the construction of an amphitheatre and spacious event grounds, which would enable the hosting of music performances, cultural festivals, and community events framed by the natural amphitheatre of the coastline. Such developments aim to diversify tourism offerings while continuing to prioritize sustainability.
Shreya Poonja, reflecting on the site’s infrastructure and vision, commented: “Shivrajpur feels thoughtfully designed and future-ready. It’s exciting to see such clean and expansive coastal spaces emerging in India.” Her words highlight a broader shift in Indian coastal tourism toward intentional, long-term planning rather than short-term commercialization.
The beach’s location enhances its draw. Just across the water lies Beyt Dwarka, home to a revered Lord Krishna temple, now more conveniently reachable thanks to Sudarshan Setu—the country’s longest cable-stayed bridge, opened in February 2024. This engineering marvel has significantly improved connectivity between mainland Dwarka and the island, creating a smoother circuit for pilgrims and leisure travelers alike. Nearby Madhavpur, known for its cultural heritage and mythological associations, further enriches the region’s appeal, allowing visitors to combine spiritual journeys with beach relaxation.
Through initiatives like Shivrajpur, Gujarat Tourism continues to demonstrate a commitment to experiential travel that respects natural resources and local communities. The Blue Flag designation requires annual re-evaluation and consistent performance, ensuring that standards do not slip once achieved.
For travelers seeking a coastal escape that feels both pristine and purposeful, Shivrajpur offers a compelling model. As evening light bathes the Arabian Sea in warm tones, the beach quietly asserts its place as more than a scenic attraction—it is a forward-looking destination where sustainability, safety, adventure, and cultural potential converge along Gujarat’s evolving coastline.
